Background

Verena Curr_

Creative Explorers is produced and facilitated by artist and early years teacher/ consultant Verena Curr.  Verena has worked across the arts, education, and public programs with children and their communities over the past eighteen years.

With a Bachelor of Arts (drama) and Creative Industries honours and Graduate Diploma (teaching) Early Years Education from QUT, Verena enjoys combining her expertise in her work with young children and their communities. She has gained knowledge through her industry experience across contemporary theatre & performance, community arts, education, facilitation and public programs.

Verena has toured work nationally and internationally with companies as part of arts festivals and programs, some of which include Out of the Box Festival, The Brisbane Writers Festival, Powerhouse Powerkids, Assitej Festival (Seoul, Korea), AHA! Festival (India), ANTI Festival (Finland), Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), Bleach Festival (QLD), Melbourne Fringe (VIC), The Big West Festival (Vic) and The Australian Performing Arts Market.

Having trained and collaborated with artists and arts companies in Australia and abroad Verena has experience in various roles such as performer/devisor and facilitator or with cultural or educational organisations to produce and deliver public programs, installations, educational consultation, and creative community outcomes.

Verena was a key member of Brisbane based Imaginary Theatre from 2009-2019 working as a performer/ devisor and creator, educational consultant, facilitator and artist in residence. Between 2012-2020 Verena was engaged by The State Library of QLD (SLQ) as a program assistant and arts worker for the children and family program. During this time she was also contracted by SLQ to deliver additional specialist projects in her capacity as freelance artist, devisor/ performer, educational consultant and PD/ workshop facilitator.

Verena has delivered a range projects as artist in residence or arts facilitator engaging children, young people, and their families/ educators with The Creche & Kinder Association QLD, The Benevolent Society, Queensland University of Technology, Kurilpa Kindergarten, The Walking Neighbourhood, Secret Hotel (Denmark), Queensland Performing Arts Centre, LaBoite Theatre and Polyglot (Melbourne).

With her knowledge in performance, art making, teaching and early years education, she has developed and delivered workshops for adults including PD workshops, educational/ art and play based training for-: teachers, librarians, parents, early childhood educators and students at education conferences/ libraries/ schools and TAFE and has worked as a tutor and project facilitator with tertiary arts students at QUT university. Verena has been engaged as an early years teacher/ educator with Education QLD,  The Creche & Kinder Association QLD, Indooroopilly Montessori Children's House, The City of Melbourne and various Community houses/ Co-ops settings in Melbourne. After becoming a mother in 2018,  she developed Creative Explorers, with the goal of providing engaging quality experiences for young children and their educators that nurture their creativity and foster a greater sense of connection, community and overall well-being.  

 

Verena loves to work with organisations and communities who are eager to nurture children's creative voice and find meaningful ways to use creativity as a tool for enhancing community experience, development and connection.
